Change the size of thumbnails in the Vista taskbar(Windows Vista)

By Saturday, February 11, 2012 No comments
When you position the cursor on the button of an active taskbar, Windows shows a miniature preview of the program window. However, in some cases, it is difficult to differentiate between the applications.
With help of the Vista Thumbnail Sizer tool available on ‘www.aveapps.com’, you can customize the size of the preview window. Once on this website, click on the screenshot to download the file. The archive contains the versions for 32 and 64-Bit Vista systems. Unzip the files and save them at any location on your computer, for example ‘C:\ Programs files’. Now, rename the directory to ‘AveThumbnailSizer’. You do not need to reinstall it, but you have to save a link to the ‘AveThumbnailSizer.exe’ fi le in Windows start menu. In case you have not logged in to computer as administrator, you must authorize the tool by clicking on ‘Run’ in the security pop-up. In the ‘VistaThumbnailSizer’ dialog box, specify the maximum width and height with help of the ‘Max width’ and ‘Max height’ sliders. The settings take effect immediately. You can test it without even having to close the tool. If you wish Windows to slowly superimpose the preview and not directly open it, simply select the ‘Add fade-in animation’ checkbox. You can even set the speed of the effect with help of the ‘Duration’ slider. The tool can be closed by simply clicking on ‘Quit’. The tool settings are retained till Windows is restarted.
NOTE: So as to retain the settings after every system reboot, Windows can automatically start the tool. To ensure this, in the program window click on the ‘Start AveVistaThumbnailSizer with Windows’ option. However, for this action, you require administrative rights. Ultimately, you must select it by logging in as admin and confirming the action by entering the suitable password.
