Automatically align decimal numbers one below the other(Word XP, 2003, 2007)

Decimal numbers in many lines should be aptly placed below one another. Even with an auxiliary table it doesn’t always work, as the numbers are in many diff erent positions.
Instead of adjusting the number positions individually, use the special tab function. First, insert the ruler by checking the option ‘ruler’ in the ‘View’ tab of Word 2007. In older Word processor versions select ‘View | Ruler’.
If there is no text, fi rst select the desired position for the decimal point and fi nally double click the new tab marking. Select the option ‘Decimal’ in ‘Alignment’ and confi rm with ‘OK’, so that the tab is displayed as an inverted ‘T’. Press the tab key to enter the numbers and subsequently enter the decimal numbers with the decimal point. Word automatically arranges all decimal points below one another, even if the numbers are in diff erent places before and after the decimal point. With existing text mark the lines that contain numbers to be formatted – but fi rst – set the decimal tab as mentioned above. Subsequently click the beginning of the line with the cursor and press the tab key to align the numbers by the line at the tab.
