Most times after a Windows update,
Word or parts of Word do not function
properly. For example the program may
not respond when you need to open or
save a document and denies operation
with the mouse.
The problem can have many causes and occurs frequently with Vista. Often it helps to delete a specifi c registry key which Word later creates by itself. First stop all Offi ce programs. Open ‘Run’ in the Windows start menu, enter ‘regedit’ and click ‘OK’. In Vista or Windows 7 type ‘regedit’ in the start menu input fi eld and press Enter. Confirm user account control with ‘Continue’. Then navigate to the key ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word’. In the right pane of the subkey select ‘Data’ and delete it. Confi rm with ‘Yes’ in the following confirmation prompt. Thereafter close the registry and restart Word. In most cases, everything should function without a problem.
