By default, Windows shows a warning
message when one tries to open a
system folder such as ‘C:\Windows’ in
the Explorer. You can see the contents
only after clicking the shown link. This
is unnecessary for experienced users.
Configure Windows in such a way that it does not show the annoying warning message anymore and immediately shows the folder contents. For this, open ‘Tools | Folder Options’ in Windows Explorer and switch to ‘View’. In the list of ‘Advanced Settings’, activate the option ‘Display contents of system folders’. Confirm this change with ‘Apply’ as well as ‘OK’.
This behaviour can also be determined through the registry. For this, select ‘Run’ in the start menu, enter ‘regedit’ and click ‘OK’. Navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced’ key. Then click on the right part of the window, search for ‘WebViewBarricade’ DWORD value and open it for editing by double-clicking it. Change the ‘Value’ to ‘1’ and confirm it with ‘OK’ so as to release immediate viewing.
NOTE: To control the setting in an automated way, export the relevant registry branch with the desired value setting to a REG file via ‘File | Export’. You can do this with a double-click or automatically in a script. To toggle between the two modes, you require two REG fi les, which set the value once at ‘1’, and once at ‘0’.
