Slowing down computers for old applications(Windows XP Pro, Vista, 7)

By Wednesday, February 08, 2012 , , No comments
A modern computer is too fast for some old programs and games even if you want more speed normally. You want to know whether you can reduce the performance of the computer for such purposes.
The shareware ‘Cpukiller’, is an adjustable brake suitable for this purpose. The free of cost test version is ready to use right away without further settings; however, it slows down the application for maximum 20 minutes per use. The full version costs approximately 29 US dollars.
Install and start the program. Then simply set the desired percentage by sliding the pointer, by which the computer should be slowed down and activate the tool by clicking ‘Start’. Try it out with medium values fi rst since even the process of accessing the settings can become extremely slow otherwise.
You can also switch on and switch off the brake by assigning ‘Hotkeys’. For that, go to ‘Tools | Options’ in the program and switch to the ‘Hotkey’ tab. Activate ‘Enable Hotkeys’, click on the ‘Start hotkey’ and ‘Stop hotkey’ fi elds below in succession and press the desired keyboard shortcut. Click ‘OK’.
