What is wrong here? Suddenly the
login to the account does not succeed
anymore – to any user account. You are
certain of having correctly entered the
passwords. The Caps Lock key is also
not activated.
Probably the function ‘Num Lock’ for the number pad has been activated during the booting of the system. As on most notebooks there is no place for a separate number pad. If characters on these keys occur in your password, Windows will not allow you into the system. To check this, switch to classic logon using the key combination [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] on the Welcome page. In this window you can write normal text in the field for the username. When you enter one of your passwords, you will immediately recognize if it is correct or if characters from the number pad occur in it. If it is activated, disable it by turning off the [NumLock] key. Then you can again logon to the system normally.
In order to permanently deactivate ‘Num Lock’ during system start, logon to the system as administrator, open the registry editor using ‘Start | Run’, and type ‘regedit’. Navigate to the key ‘HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard’ and open ‘InitialKeyboardIndicators’. Set the ‘Value’ to ‘0’. To change the value only for logged on users, make this adjustment to the key ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard’.
