Detecting and protecting invisible administrator account(Windows XP Home)

By Wednesday, February 08, 2012 No comments
The administrator account is a favourite target of hackers. That is why you normally protect it with a password. For testing purposes you wish to protect it with a password.
Windows maintains the standard ‘Administrator’ account in the background which is only visible in ‘Safe mode’. Treacherous: Everyone can logon to this account without entering a password! Nevertheless, even when starting in ‘Safe Mode’, people with access to the computer can get into the account without any hindrance.
To protect the system, you must start the computer in ‘Safe Mode’. For that press the [F8] key while booting and then select ‘Safe Mode’. On the ‘Welcome’ page, logon into the renamed administrator account. Then open the entry ‘User Accounts’ in the control panel, click on the icon ‘Administrator’ and select ‘Change Password’ or ‘Change my own Password’. In the following dialog you specify a password for this account. A strong password should be at least eight characters long and besides letters should also contain numbers and special characters as well as capitals. Now close the dialog by clicking on ‘OK’.
