By default, Windows decides as to
which elements are to be displayed in
the system tray. Perhaps these are not
the ones you really want. You can not
only remove the ones you don’t want,
but also specify for each program, as to
how its symbol must appear.
Right-click on the object, for instance the clock, in the system tray of the taskbar and select the ‘Adjust notification symbols’ option. Search for the corresponding symbol in the list, for example ‘Security centre’. In the combination field on the right-hand side, change the setting to ‘Show only notifications’.
In most cases this seems to be the best option because all important popup messages are shown even without the symbol being present on the system tray. In case of certain cumbersome elements you can ‘Hide symbols and notifications’, so that you see them only after hovering on the hidden symbol. On the other hand, in order to make the network status symbol visible, select the ‘Show symbols and notifications’ option. In this list, the missing symbols from the system tray are included in ‘system symbols’. Now to configure their display characteristics click on ‘Activate or deactivate system symbols’. Also, when new symbols are added to the system tray on installation of any new program, you must make the desired settings for them as explained above.
