Comfortably deactivate unnecessary background services(Windows XP, Vista, 7)

By Sunday, February 19, 2012 , , No comments
Modern PCs are powerful enough for most tasks, but in some applications, namely games, your PC comes to a crawl. Can a certain percentage of more power be brought out?
You can deactivate services that are not required. ‘Game Booster’ can be downloaded for free from http://goo.gl/6bZh. Simply defi ne the services you don't want to run in the so-called ‘Game mode’, and then you can toggle between this mode and the normal mode.
During setup, deactivate the ‘I Agree to Install the IObit Toolbar’ option, else the tool places a bar in the browser. In the ‘Details’ field, the dialog informs you about all currently running services that you can switch off . Apart from the quick selection via the ‘Not required services’ option, you can determine which services should be ended using the checkbox.
Click ‘Configure’. In this dialog, you can select the background programs that are to be closed. Activate the ‘List all current processes’ to view the normally running programs. Be careful during this selection so as not to end any important program. A click on ‘OK’ confirms the settings.
From the main window, start the optimization with ‘Switch to the game mode’. After a few seconds, all services will be deactivated and the tool minimizes itself in the info field of the taskbar. Then call the tool from there again and click ‘Back to the normal mode’ to restart all previous services and programs. If you require a certain service constantly, you can also edit the preset configuration. For that, click above on ‘Options’, and then ‘Edit the service bar’. The ‘Gamebooster.ini’ file now opens in Notepad. Search for the relevant section for the operating system XP, Vista or Windows 7 and then the relevant service in it. Change ‘1’ after the equals sign to ‘0’ to rule out this service from deactivating. Do not make any more changes. Save the file and close the editor.
NOTE: Game Booster cannot turn a slow PC into a turbo-PC, but it does off er a performance boost of a few percent in terms of more free RAM. Moreover, the tool is suitable for tests to check possible conflicts between programs and services.
