DVD films and video fi les in formats
such as DivX can't be transferred and

With the freeware HandBrake,
films can be converted for iPod and
iPhone. However, you may not be able to
copy DVDs if they are copy-protected. You
will need to install the Microsoft’s .NET
Framework. Immediately after starting,
set the default path for the task. Open
‘Tools | Options’ and click the ‘General’
tab next to ‘Output fi les’ in ‘Browse’.
Navigate to the desired folder and select
the fi le that needs to be converted.
Through ‘Source’ select the source. Use
‘Video file’ for an individual fi le or ‘DVD/
VIDEO_TS Folder’ to convert an existing
DVD folder on the hard disk. As long as
the DVD is loaded, it can be selected
directly. HandBrake analyzes the source
and adjusts the dialogues. The title or
chapter to be taken from the source can
be selected with combo boxes in the
section ‘Source’. On a music DVD, select
the individual titles through ‘Chapters’. In
the input fi eld for ‘Destination’, defi ne the
fi le names for the task. For all additional
settings, use the standard defaults for
the target device. Right-click in ‘Presets’
on ‘Apple’ and subsequently on ‘iPod’.
HandBrake sets the options on the tabs
‘Picture’, ‘Video’, ‘Audio’ and ‘Chapters’
automatically. To convert, click on ‘Start’
at the top. The process is resourceintensive
and time consuming. The overall
time taken to convert will depend on the
computer performance, settings and size
of the video. The fi nished M4V file can
now be transferred to the iPod.
