When typing in the address fi eld, the
browser always suggests ‘Download
Windows Search’ as the first prompt.
You want to get rid of this annoying
prompt since you do not want to use
this Windows Search.
A prompt appears if Windows Search is not installed or deactivated. You can get rid of the prompt permanently via a registry entry.
For that you need to open ‘Run’ in the start menu, enter ‘regedit’ and click ‘OK’. Navigate to ‘HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Main\Windows Search’ in the Registry Editor. Click in the right part of the window and open ‘Edit | New | DWORD value’. Then type ‘Show-Prompt’ and press Enter. Leave the specifi ed value as ‘0’ and close the registry. From now on, whenever you start Internet Explorer, you will never come across this annoying prompt.
Nevertheless, if you want to install Windows Search again later via this path, simply re-delete the newly created registry value by selecting it in the Editor, pressing [Del] and answering the subsequent security prompt with ‘OK’.
